Meh. It's mostly melted off now. What I hate is when it snows, then freezes. Makes getting around a real pain. I can see my daffodils peeking out under the melting snow, so I'm OK with it. Spring will be here before you know it.

Weather forecast says a few days this weekend might be nice and a nice stretch is coming up in early April. But I don't trust the weather forecast beyond an hour or two.

No snow down here in the Bay Area, but same phenomenon. Just prior to March 9th it was getting warm, cozy and very pretty. Then Mother Nature decided to throw that idea in the trash and gave us a nasty week of rain, wind and gusts. Yesterday and last night was pleasantly warmer at about 55 F, but since this morning I'm freezing my fingers and toes off.

I was just outside for the lunch walk w/ the missus... the clouds were present, but thin - you could definitely feel the sun's warmth right through them.

Rather than the intermittent drizzle that Portland is known for, there have been steady showers most days. It's also been a bit chillier than normal, based on the averages I've seen (and what locals have told me). There was snow in the West Hills today, and more expected overnight. After this winter, which didn't seem bad at all, I was thinking I might be one of those people who just deals well with gloomy weather. The past 12 days have made me question that. Fortunately, we're supposed to be getting a brief respite from the rain this weekend, before it starts back up again on Monday. I sincerely hope April is better to us than March has been.
Maybe that is because they don't feel it has been so horrible. I don't. It hasn't bothered me. And as far as the rain, April is usually wet. I have never seen it cease entirely until maybe June. After the Rose Festival.

I don't think the steady showers are so unusual. Maybe this year has been worse than others and I haven't noticed.

This has been a pretty typical March, which is often wet and cold. Plus, we're into a cold phase of the Pacific Decadal Oscillation, so the only real surprise is that we haven't had any massive ice storms.

The latest I remember snow is April 1. I think it was 1981 I woke up to 6" of new snow. It was all melted by noon.

Was treated to an awesome sight last night and this morning...

Last night, the sky was clear over the ocean, and Venus and Jupiter were almost on top of each other (bearing roughly WSW in the sky). They were bright enough to actually cast a lighted reflection on the water. (I'm really enjoying the ability to actually see the Milky Way. I'm seriously going to have to get a telescope).

This morning, there was a clear patch on Hwy 6 just outside Tillamook, but before the mountains. Saw an awesome pre-sunrise vista of fog boiling out of the pass and onto the plain (okay, not so fun to drive in once you get there, but the sight was breathtaking).

I know exactly what you're talking about. Two events that you just can't explain how.... magical they are to people until they experience them personally.
