Hello, you may not know who I am but I am JayUso. Recently I've been taking a higher responsibility of being a part of my community. A community that I'll unfortunately no longer be a part of in a few months, however despite that I maintain great concern for the health, well- being, and livelihood of all residents.

Recently there has been a surge in violent crimes, very prevalent in all news outlets in Portland and many adjacent communities. And I hear the rate of crime is going to continue to increase, it has come to the point where I have begun to fear for the future of the city, the children, elderly, and all involved. Things like walking down the street for me has become a tense and trauma filled experience, I am concerned for my own well being. As responsible and highly intelligent adults I think the time is now more than ever than we strive to figure out a solution. I am sure that with proper dedication we can save the city that was once a safe place.

I am going to share a few links with you all of various reports over the past few days, months, and weeks. Please note that some of these reports may be disturbing, and it is not recommended for those who may be uncomfortable reading such things. Once again I thank all of you for your time, support, and may all of you have a great day.

My thoughts:

1. Portland has never been a place where you could just walk down the street an be completely worry free. In some neighborhoods yes, but as a whole, no. I don't kmow how lomg you have been here, but Portland hasn't ever been an idyllic safe cimefree place.

2. The Portland Police Bureau should not be run by politicians like the Mayor or any other city politician. Neither should the Water Bureau. The way Portland city government is structured should be examined and changed so politics is not involved with Police and basic government responsibilities to the taxpayers. PPB Gang enforcement should be top priority.

3. As the population of this town grows, so does it's crime. Relatively speaking, Portland is still "quiet".

4. You are a wee bit paranoid.

Once a safe place? Not the entire city. I think there were many more unsafe neighborhoods years ago than there are today.

My neighborhood is 100% more safe than it was 20 something years ago when I first moved into it. I think many can say that about other areas as well.

Could all the unreported, rarely-investigated, largely-protected-under-the-law white-collar crime have anything to do with it?

With this extremely painful never-ending recession, I'm shocked that the crime rate isn't much higher than this! Think about it!!!

5 Gang related shooting in a few hours sounds like trouble is brewing over. In reality that is an outlier to the over all picture that in itself doesn't indicate overall crime rates are increasing.

There is crime everywhere. I lived in NYC for 15 years and the paper frequently published reports of the most horrific crimes imaginable.

It's best not to focus on the negative all the time - bad for the psyche.
