Hi!

After a couple years of deliberation and investigation, we have finally decided that the place for us to move is Portland. My company has an office in Lake Oswego, so the move should be pretty straightforward for us. I can work while hubby looks for a job - hopefully at Intel. Our estimated departure will be in early May 2013. We have two dogs, a cat, and a little one due in August. We will be looking for a house ASAP, but will need temporary housing while we get to know the area better.

Any recommendations for good sites to search?

So far what I've seen is expensive! What is a typical monthly rate for something like this? We were hoping to find something $1000-1700 a month. Is that an unreasonable expectation? Doesn't matter if it's an apt or house, as long as it's pet friendly!

Thanks for any help in advance!

I haven't been in your position but temporary housing, while expensive, is temporary. The best approach, IMHO, would be to board your pets for a month or two, Maybe even seeking pet 'foster care' while in transition.

Because your husband is targeting Intel split the difference geographically.. Sherwood would be a good place to start looking for housing.

You might look at AirBnB. Sometimes they have separate apartments, cottages, etc. for not too much.

Thanks for the feedback! I checked out airbnb and that looks like a good option for us. Will have to wait a while of course since we still have a bit of time, but I'll def bookmark it. Thanks!

You might also look at Extended Stay NW - Home

My wife and I have stayed in one of their apartments while we had some work done on our house.

Oh nice, that looks like a good one too! We'll have to check into the pet-friendly part on that site (didn't see anything that said one way or the other), but I'll keep that one marked too.

Thanks!

Our cats were with us; the complex we were in is definitely pet-friendly. Not sure if all of Extended Stay's facilities are, though.
