We don't know anything really about portland....and we don't know anyone there.... so i was thinking maybe someone could be so kind as to tell me what is an affordable place to live around the city where i could get a good job and all that jazz. also we would like to make some friends before we get out there if possible so if u could use a friend that is from outta town let us know. thanks to anyone who can give me any info i really appreciate it

10-20 minutes out of Portland puts you in the middle of the Interstate Bridge. At that, you would often have trouble making it to Portland in 20 minutes. You can't find a parking place in Portland in 20 minutes. Portland is a very compact city, but the only time you can drive from one side of town to the other in 20 minutes is at 3 AM.

Your best bet is to give up driving and live somewhere close to the MAX line.

how is portland compared to manhatten??? i imagine portland being the size of like the village area.

Id Portland hip? By that i mean are there bars with loud music and night activity. In manhatten, bars are crowded with people having fun and lots of music. Can I expect something similar?

Portland is much larger than Manhattan; Manhattan in itself is not large - just crowded with people. Portland is not crowded with people (it is crowded with traffic) and has a population of approximately 555,000 in the city alone and the total metro area (suburbs, etc.) is 2 million people.
