We live in the Arnold Creek area (off of SW Boones Ferry @ SW 18th) not far from the BF & Terwilliger intersection. We really like it. It is quiet and green but not far from downtown (we've timed it and we can be downtown in less than 10 minutes on I5 North, depending on traffic of course). We are also close to both Hwy. 217 and 99 so getting over to Beaverton, Tigard, Sherwood, etc... is not too bad either. The schools are good and there is some decent shopping nearby. Tryon Creek State Park is also really close (we can walk over to an entrance to the trails). There are lots of kids in the area so it is definitely family friendly.

i don't live there but i think it's a cute area. i'd definitely live there, they have bus lines that go where I work. i don't know how driving commutes fare, though.

it is very very hilly there (compared to AZ). I don't mind the hills but i wouldn't want to bike too much there because i'm a big baby.

For being right in Portland it feels pretty suburban, but close to some businesses and downtown, close to Multnomah Village, a nice neighborhood center / shops area, and super easy to get to I-5, and even easy to get over to the East side of Portland where things are a little more edgy. Feels very safe, but not really that walkable because of the hills and I noticed many of the streets don't have sidewalks. Not like living in a city grid.
