Looks like FIOS is unavailable there.

I work from home and need reliability. I don't think a DSL solution will work for me.

I'm only interested in internet access, preferably without data cap. Don't need TV or Phone.

Is comcast my only option?

Most likely, unfortunately.

I think we have FIOS in GH, we heard about it a week or so after we got Comcast (in april). I can't remember the company though, I'll have to ask my husband. If not FIOS, at least there is an alternative to comcast (which I'm not really a fan of).

Thanks, I would love to hear about viable alternatives to Comcast in that area.

Worst case, I might go with comcast without a contract agreement, and wait until FIOS is available.

Unfortunately, as someone who works from home and depends on a reliable and fast connection, it appears like those are the only 2 available options, even if I would prefer not to support their practices.

Your access to FIOS technologies depends on where the phone companies have already ran fiber optic cable and how far you are from a "Central Office." Mostly you're looking at within 1-2 miles of a Central Office, and only along major routes with high density housing. So mostly near places with lots of apartment complexes.

Unfortunately in the Portland area, FIOS penetration is only 10-25%. Comcast got the lead pretty early when they were trying to compete against DSL and the Phone Companies are still trying to play catch up.
