Be prepared for a new wave of off the wall questions everyone.

Wall Street Journal posted this piece today: Portland: The New Utopia -- Photos - WSJ.com

All I can wonder is where did actual reporting go? There are thousands of unemployed English majors who'd be happy to step up.

Well the header at the top does specifically say "photos".

Right? They can pay me a bunch of money to take photos around town if they want and write little sidenotes next to them. There is no article

I'm still trying to figure out what any of those photos have to do with Portland Utopia though.

You could probably take 12 photos of cool places in just about any city or even large town in the country and paint a similar picture. Sloppy, lazy "reporting". Not to mention derivative.

Twelve photos of Portland and they double up on some places? They couldn't find 12 different interesting spots?

They probably got some leftover photos from one of the New York Times many articles about Portland...

As a former journalist though--I'll say that the print news industry has cut costs to such a degree that eventually they'll just be outsourcing most articles to India or have robots write headlines.

Absurd. Reminds me of the 1970s when the national media did the same thing with Minnesota. I wasn't sure I wanted our state to have this much exposure. Doggone, where's the James G Blaine Society? Portland isn't Utopia. The skies are gray 99 percent of the time. Mold everywhere. Water up to your waist when you go outside. Get the real facts out there!!!
