Why would it be risky if I plan on staying throughout the 6 month period or even longer?

Great that's good to know. That's exactly what I was hoping to hear. I was told the same thing by two other graduate students who have done the same thing as you have. Both told me that the landlord had no problem renting to them once they showed him their financial aid award letter so he knew they would have the money to cover their rent.

Well I was thinking in terms of needing things fixed and generally catering to you as the customer. If he already has your money he's already got what he wants.
