My husband and I are also a Childfree Couple in our 30's and fellow nerds as well. We just got back from visiting and loved everything about the city. My husband is originally from CA too and we are well aware of the "Idiocracy" type of dumbing down. We are currently in FL, not happy at all. The summers are oppressively humid and depressing and we loved the Green in the State of Oregon! I actually think Oregon is the most beautiful state I have ever been too!

We have 2 cats and 2 dogs and own a home in FL, which hopefully we will be renting but are nervous about finding a private rental that may accept pets. We are okay with smaller and we like the Hawthorne neighborhood but are open to other areas that are safe and around 1000/month. Any suggestions would be appreciated! We love the city, the food, the rose garden, the artsy feel, Powell's books, and the polite nature of the city! We can't wait to get back to the West Coast again, also love the slower relaxed feel of Oregon in general! Any suggestions for pet-friendly rentals in safe areas would be appreciated.

Thanks!

I live in the Hawthorne area 27th and Hawthorne. All the buildings around me allow cats. A couple of them allow small dogs too but I don't think they allow that many pets in one unit. The rents are in your range. I think what you will need to do is look up rental management companies, I don't know if we are allowed to give out any names anymore on this forum but if you google Portland Neighoborhoods your will find them.

Or PM me and I can give you a couple. These are for apartments though and not houses if that is what you are looking for.

May PM you at a later date. Decided first we will be applying for jobs and then arrange for the apartment. Thanks for the info, will definitely look when we are closer to being ready. Just got back to FL today so hopefully 6 months or so...
