Like any big city it varies tremendosly. A decent apartmentment can be $650-1,200. A decent house $800-1,300.

i lived in michigan once upon a time. i feel ya. the good news is moving just about anywhere is an improvement, though it may not be as cheap.

ditto what blazer prophet said, except i think 800-1300 is very optimistic and low for houses. in the 3+ bedroom range you will probably pay more, though depending on the area you might be able to find one in that price range.

Yes, that 800-1300 is wildly low. In Portland proper (not gresham or beaverton) expect to pay a minimum of $1100 for a house. And that is going to be in one of the less desirable neighborhoods in the city, and probably at least 5 miles form downtown. You could easily rent one for $2500 plus on the other end of the spectum.

wildly low?

seriously?

it's a bit low, but you very well may find something within that range.

the downside to that price range is a lot of places advertise vacancies as a "home" or a "house" but really they are duplexes, townhomes, split homes, "apartment homes," "town house" etc. it is difficult to actually FIND a single family house in a particular location, in my experience - especially at that lower price range.
