Hello Everyone.

I am possibly moving to Portland, Or and am very excited about the idea. I have visited several times and real like the area. So much Culture, Food, Dogs!, festivals, Markets and some of the nicest people I have ever run into.

Anyway, For my questions =-)

I am looking for the perfect Area, of course!

1. I currently make around 75k a year. So my budget is around 600 - 1300. Studio to 2 bedroom.
2. I am 29 years old and single.
3. I enjoyed the Pearl District and the area around 23rd St. and Mississippi Ave the NE side?? Having said that I have not explored all of Portland. Where is a good place for something I can afford, with restaurants, life, etc in walking distance. As well as public transportation in walking distances. Really like the the light rail!
4. anything else you want to share, as an FYI - I am moving from Atlanta, Ga

Your budget would certainly allow you to look in the Pearl or the NW districts. That'd be where I'd look for the things you mention ... transportation, access to restaurants, nightlife, etc. As long as you're not looking for a lot of square footage, you should be fine there.

Thanks, are there any apartment/condo's you would recommend or is it more homeowner rentals and you just have to search around?

It would help to know in which area of town you will be working and if you plan to have a car or rely on public transportation. Also, the vacancy rate is about 3% right now so you could end up paying more for less.

But I would still suggest the OP look up Tri Met schedules as to what public transportation is available in the neighborhood he finds to his liking. Take it from a car-free veteran of the public transportation system, with the many cut-backs in the bus schedules, it is not quite so easy to get around on the buses as it once was.

Light rail may be a different story, I am not as familiar with that. But checking first is always a good idea.

Reading between the lines, you travel by air. In that case look for something within a couple blocks of the street car on the west side because it is easier to bring a roll-aboard on the streetcar than the bus. Then transfer to the MAX line that goes to the airport.

There is a short-term car rental firm with cars parked throughout that neighborhood and there is an Enterprise Rent a Car agency on NW Burnside if you want wheels for the weekend.

Just live in the Pearl. Don't bother with any place else. I always welcome successful transplants.
