Arizonatransplant1978: Join the reverse SAD club. I live in FL now and the relentless sun and heat get to me, especially since I suffer from severe chronic migraines triggered by sun.

Grocery stores here are the only place I get to wear any of my favorite sweaters or coats. I wisely kept all my winter clothes when I moved here...just in case. Boots and wool blankets too.

Believe it or not, I do know lots of people who have moved and actually like (even love!) where they moved, so I have hope.

We are relocating to PDX in August with our three children. Our budget is a lot lower than yours, and we're homeschooling, but I would heartily second the recommendation for Sellwood or Woodstock. Great schools, close to everything but with a small town feel, tons of families and kids. Rentals are pretty tight (really, everywhere in PDX), but you should be able to find something with your budget and steady income level. I love this house although it might be a bit small if you're used to a lot more space Beautiful Woodstock House

Whatever you decide, best of luck to you!

For the record, even with my husband's job transferring him to PDX, we were only able to fly up once for five days to scout neighborhoods, and then he is going up twice more to try to get a rental. Although it is good advice to visit during the winter, I know it's just not possible for some people. Anyways, with the way folks on here make the weather out to be, you'll probably be pleasantly surprised by a PDX winter by the time you get there.
