Well actually it's not that hard to do online, but Fry's will price match - the last handful of times I visited Fry's I got them to price match B&H Photo and Newegg, so it's always good to go there with a smart phone and if you hone in on a laptop or whatever you buy, google that exact specific model # and see if there are better prices at any of the major online retailers. Seems to save me roughly $50 per visit.

I talked to a lady who has a business repairing and setting up computers for people. I got her name from Angie's List so I think she should be pretty reliable. I like her website too.

http://www.computerhaven.com

She told me as many of you have that my old thing will not support the new stuff and needs to go. Not that I intended to try and fix it but she wanted to make sure I understood that. I assured her I did. She asked how I used a computer and how I thought I might like to use a new computer with more features and came up with this suggestion. It looked pretty good to me.

Anything I get of course, she will help install for me for a fee of course. She went to the website and actually customized this for me. Not that I have to buy it of course but it did look good to me and she really spent a long time on the phone explaining how things worked. No pressure. I can decide if that's the way I want to go and order it if I want.

Toshiba Satellite S870-BT3N22 Laptop

She is in my side of town too.

I'd recommend seeing a laptop in person first to see if you like its keyboard, trackpad, screen, form factor/build quality/weight. I'd also suggest you try windows 8 for awhile to see if you can cope with it. I'm pretty sure they're all going to have reasonably good enough hardware specs in 2013 for your needs, if I were you I'd focus on finding one that seems comfortable.

If you have Windows 8 and install Start8, Windows 8 start menu returns with Start8 from Stardock!, you will have a start menu that is better than previous Windows versions. IMO, with this you will have the best version of Windows available with no learning curve.

If you install ModernMix, ModernMixâ„¢ - Run Modern (Metro) apps in a window on your desktop with ModernMixâ„¢ Modern apps will run the same as any Windows program

There are also free programs similar to Start8 such as Classic Shell.

Good idea. I hope I don't confuse myself.

I checked those websites and I like those products.

At least Google Chrome allowed me to get back on City Data so I could get all your good advice. IE8 and all it's updates kept me off the Internet completely. But even with Chrome, which I had thought had solved all my computer woes, I am now finding I can't get onto all my favorite sites so I am anxious to upgrade to that new computer whatever it turns out to be. Still appreciate all the input.

I need a large screen for my tired elderly eyes that I can move from room to room and ordering from the manufacturer online I am told does eliminate the middleman. I am also not really fond of touch screens. Although when I see these advertised on TV I think they are pretty cool looking.

Regarding price. I am having help with this through my sister and she is okay with this. We are going to pay it all off at once so there won't be any interest to worry about.

Back to the same answer Ol' Gal. Shipping will eat any online price savings. Fry's is still the only game in town unless you like spending 15% to 25% more than you need to.

H'mm. Okay, another thing to think about. Looks like it may be back to Fry's.

Or not, I just went onto the Toshiba website to see if I could get the model number etc the computer lady suggested and I noticed it said free shipping. So I guess for that one at least it won't be an issue.

Did you try the Fry's website to see what they charge for the same model, and with buying local you have some one to shake your fist at if you have problems.
