Exactly. None of the suburbs have exactly the same draw that Portland (and I'm talking downtown) does. A particular event, or maybe a specific store, is about the only reason most people will venture into another suburban area other than the one they live int.

The only suburb I probably venture a lot out to for non-business purposes is Beaverton and that's because they have the best Asian grocery in Portland(Uwajimaya) and one of my favorite Japanese restaurants(Yuki) and some great Korean restaurants and a good Salvadorean place. Though I might check out the Hillsboro Hops this summer.

Vancouver all the way. No state income tax in WA but you can still shop tax-free in OR - best of both worlds. Plus Vancouver has better schools, is safer and is easier to get around.
