I just returned from a week's visit to Portland, and I was struck by the weather there. While the temperature was forecast in the 70's and 80's each day, I was greeted in the morning by dark cloudy skies, temperatures in the 50's, and often a fine mist. The clouds seemed to linger until noon or even later, at which time the sun finally came out, and the temperature rose to its predicted temperature.

Is this typical of mornings and early afternoons in Portland in the summer.....no sun? Is the weather like this all the way up the coast?

We had a marine layer come in on Friday and last a few days. I was grateful for it as it kept things cool while I had to be outside.

Today, the morning is bright and sunny with only one wispy cloud to see outside my window.

I think marine layers are common anywhere on the West Coast. In San Diego, we called them "June gloom."

I love those marine layers... it already feels like it's going to be a scorcher today. (not my cup of tea)

It's even typical in most areas of coastal CA. And the overcast can come really far inland at times although you get less of the drizzle the further you are from the water.
