I guess the bomber and not beer is what made Milwaukie famous.

It still exists... not really sure what this thread is about. Our company is actually doing some restoration work on the bomber. But it may be a total loss/not economically feasible to repair at this point.

It sucks that it hasn't been taken care of over the years, but I think it's time to pull it out and give it to a restoration group to take over.

There is a reason they don't store old airplanes in the pacific northwest. I have seen the guts, they are rotten, that's why it may not be possible to restore. Even if they restore it on the outside, it poses a risk to public safety because the bomber could just disintegrate at anytime from and weakened ribs and bulkheads. You can't just start adding things to a weakened structure.

We machined some odd la-z-boy shaped brackets with standoffs. Not sure where they fit in the grand scheme of things.

It is sad to see it in its current state. I think a restoration group would have an easier time replacing it with a mock up. 9/10ths of the public would have no idea it wasn't a real B-17 they would just think it was restored. When I was in the AF, Fab flight made a mock F-86... or a p-80 cant remember now. It had no original parts it was just the shape and some little details, it looked awesome. Some old vets were mad when they discovered it wasn't real, but no one else could tell.

Or.... I know where they could find a couple hundred B-52s, that they could get dirt cheap. maybe even free. 4 or 5 flat beds that haul windmill parts and you would have an even more impressive bomber.

The food is okay.

@OP - I notice that you're doing this in a lot of forums? Are you into "Roadside Attractions?" Or just interested in preserving these old sites?

Both! I've checked out a copy of Pump and Circumstance from the local public library. The book is about gas stations. It has a picture of the "Bomber". It is a shame that so few of these curiosities remain.

Ah! I was just curious. You should check out the RoadSide Attractions Website. Also the "Weird <insert state>" series of books.
