I will be moving to Portland in 2 weeks, my boyfriend got a job at Nike. We are moving from Orange County, California. We are having a hard time finding apartments/houses to rent with certain amenities we require. We would like to get a medium to large dog, so we need a pet friendly place. Also, my boyfriend will be traveling a lot so we'll need to move to an area that is relatively safe.

If anyone could offer suggestions of a safe place, that's close to Nike, and a pet friendly place to live, I would greatly appreciate it

Since you plan on renting, I would look for a place in Beaverton or maybe Bethany. Those places are close to Nike and safe. Once there, you can find out what you're actually looking for in a neighborhood, where you end up working and how the commute would be and can take your time finding a longer term spot.

Car traffic around Nike during commute hours is a bear. I would suggest someplace that's also max friendly or in a bikeable distance.

Which Nikee campus is your BF working at? The Main Campus, Millikan, or the old Tek? There are several nice apartment complexes within walking distance to both Main Campus and the Max. Even if you come with cars, consider them.

Unlike homeowners who are anchored by the location of their house, you can choose to live anywhere you want, why not make it super-convenient. That entire area is very nice and safe - no neighborhoods to avoid.
As SETTabor said, traffic in Beaverton is often awful, and you will save on gas and time.

I once had a coworker who lived at King's Court Apartments, and liked it there.

NIKE runs a shuttle from the Beaverton Creek MAX stop, they can live anywhere they please.

Finding a parking spot at the NIKE campus can be a challenge. Bike or use the MAX if at all possible.

Thanks for all your responses! I'm pretty sure he will be taking the MAX to work.

@skiffrace he'll be working at the main campus.

Sounds like anywhere in Beaverton you can't go wrong!

A friend of mine just got a job at Nike, I think he said they have shuttles for the employees.

Your next question is how much do you want to spend on housing and what kind of 'vibe' do you want in a neighborhood.

This complex allows dogs: Apartments for Rent in Beaverton, Oregon 97005 | Canyon Park Apartments

It's not as close to the Nike campus as some of the other options people have mentioned. It's close to downtown Beaverton, with shops & restaurants in walking/biking distance, although the complex itself is quiet.

One of the advantages of living close to the MAX line is that it goes to the airport.

@Nell Plotts we want more of a suburban type neighborhood to live in, something quiet, and more of a "homey" feel. We're both young, but we live our lives like older people would (no offense to any "older" people on here!)

@Rob Allen thanks for the tip! We really want to get a larger dog, I'm pushing for a pit bull, but most complexes won't allow that breed.
