We're about a month from our trip to Portland from the other end of the country, Florida. We are flying in on Christmas day, which will hopefully make the holiday traveling a bit more tolerable. Our base of operations is the Heathman Hotel, and we've rented a car. We've allotted two days of city exploration and two days for the 'burbs. We're going to visit Tigard, Tualatin, Lake Oswego, West Linn, Milwaukie and Beaverton. We'll try to get a feel for each place and start narrowing down the places we like most.

I've learned a lot following others' journeys on the forum, so I thought I'd share what I find as well.

Also, suggestions for where take my husband for his birthday dinner December 29? We eat everything, love meat and sushi, don't drink alcohol.

I guess we'll have dessert from Cacao. I think it's in the Heathman? Because I want to say......CACAO!

There are several really good restaurants within a few blocks of the Heathman. Higgins, the Raven & Rose, the Ringside Fish House, Southpark.

I like Jakes Famous Crawfish, 401 SW 12th Ave. Their happy hour menu can't be beat.

Seafood Portland - Jake's Famous Crawfish Portland | McCormick & Schmick's

For a treat go to St. Honore Bakery on NW Thurman & 23rd (take the #15 bus because parking is competitive): http://www.sainthonorebakery.com/

The Heathman is a good choice. My brother works the front desk there. He is always telling me about the celeberties that stay there.

. . . . and the food carts around Portland are a must
