Looks like Hollywood Bowl is closing, with rumors of it being turned into a hardware store. That will be an interesting change.

When I first moved here in 1996, I didn't know anyone other than the sorority sister's family I was staying with. Through work, I was asked to join a bowling league and figured if nothing else, that would get me out of the house at least once a week. Since that was kind of my introduction to having a social life in Portland, this makes me sad.

I used to bowl there with co-workers. Another icon that will be closing is the Wildwood Restaurant.

I'm not surprised about Hollywood Bowl... Although I'm sorry you are sad. When I went it was deserted and dingy.

I haven't been there for more than a few years, it was an okay bowling ally...I think Grand Central took a lot of their business away.

At least no one can complain too much about gentrification in this case, they're being replaced by an Orchards Supply hardware store...

Oh, yay! My husband will be so excited to hear the news! I guess the parking will remain underground?

Our work participates in Bowling For Kids' Sake every spring to raise funds for the Boys and Girls Clubs- it's always been at the Hollywood Bowl. I understand they are searching for a new site...

I haven't been to the Hollywood Bowl in years but I go by it a lot and it has looked pretty shabby from the outside for a long time. 52 years is a long time for something to remain in place. It's probably time for it to go. But it brings back some fun memories for me. It's good the land will be used for a hardware store or some useful purpose like that.
