Hello All!

Never been to your state or City before....Driving down and spending a few days in Portland and was hoping to get some advice from some local music lovers!

Love the blues and rock and roll and would like to catch some live music while I am there.

Also any advice on what to do ....what to avoid and the MUST sees in Portland would be greatly appreciated! I have heard that you have the most amazing people and I hope to get to meet at least some of you!

Thank you so much for your time and kindness!

Those are great jazz clubs, Steve, but for blues the first names in my mind are Duff's Garage, Trail's End Saloon, and Mock Crest Tavern.

This is probably the best place to start: - Cascade Blues Association

Then check the music listings in the local papers:
Portland Concerts, Live Music, Gig Guide, Bands, Events Calendar - Willamette Week

Trails End is cool. I miss Chicago Blues. We used to get computer parts from a store that was right across the street from a great blues club on one side and a comedy club on the other. I would volunteer to go get parts near quitting time so I could get the company to pay for the 80 mile round trip.

That's nice work if you can get it.

Also, Steve, it looks like Vinideus is closed.

I thought of another couple of resources for the OP: tune in to the blues on local radio.

Home | KMHD has Bill Rhoades playing mostly-acoustic blues on Wednesday nights from 9-11, and Friday nights have Dr. Jane's Lowdown, the Blues Palace and Blues Before Sunrise, from 8pm until 6am Saturday.

KBOO | Community Radio for Portland and beyond has Blues Junction alternating with Blue Rhythm on Saturdays 5-7pm

And one of the few blues shows on a commercial station anywhere is Steve Pringle's Friday Freeway Blues, Friday 6-7pm on 101.9 KINK FM | True to the Music

not sure - the last update on their blog is from 2009, same on Yelp, with a big red bar at the top of the page that says "Vinideus Wine Shop & Wine Bar is permanently closed."

I don't think it has been that long, but maybe. I guess it has been a few years since I was there. Come to think of it that was during one of my wife's meetings in Portland, and she has been retired since 2012.
