Hi,
Husband getting transferred to Intel in Hillsboro in April and we want to send our daughter to Catholic school. We don't need to live in Hillsboro and I didn't read good things about St. Matthews school in Hillsboro. I read a lot of good things about Portland catholic schools and wanted to see if anyone on here has feedback about any catholic school. I see there are some catholic schools in Beaverton but read so so comments. We definitely want to send our daughter to the all girls catholic school in Portland as I went to an all girls catholic school and loved it and think it is a great learning environment.

As long as my husband is near the MAX and he can commute on off times. Don't know Portlands landscape very well so we don't know where to look to live. We will rent of course first and then buy.

Would like a catholic school that has an active community and great after school activities.

I thank you for your feedback.

Also, had another off topic question. If you want to buy property less than five acres which towns can you buy in?

Thanks,
Mossy

Our urban growth boundary pretty much precludes rural properties less than 5 acres unless you can find an old home site. Metro: Urban and rural reserves

I don't know how good it is but this school is located in Beaverton, a neighboring suburb of Hillsboro. It looks like it's co-ed though, so don't know if that's a deal breaker for you.

Valley Catholic School

There is only one all girls school that I'm aware of in the entire Portland area and it's a high school, St. Mary's.

There are no all boys schools.

I have a friend who sends her kids to Valley in Beaverton. They seem to like it very much. From our conversations, I gather the school community is strong and there is a lot of parental involvement. She has also mentioned that the student body is very diverse.

All Saints is apparently a really popular one and so is St Agatha's in Sellwood. They're co-ed though.

Those are grade schools. All the grade schools are co-ed.

Commuting from Sellwood to Hillsboro wouldn't be my choice [though I suppose OP did suggest off-peak commute is possible]. Laurelhurst (St. Agatha's) wouldn't be great either, but at least the MAX would be viable from that area.

I went to catholic elementary and high school in the portland area and think i know this topic fairly well. there is only one girls only school that i know of and that is Saint Mary's Academy in downtown but it is a High school. there are severall excellent schools in beaverton such as st. thomas moore and st. pious x. also if you can live in southwest portland or Lake oswego there is St. Claire and Our lady of the Lake. Our lady of the lake just rebuilt the school and is very nice. as far as high schools go Jesuit and Central Catholic are your best bets.
