...should I live in Oregon City or are there more desirable areas? Let's see, I'll try to keep this short...

I'm an RN, married with no children.

Likes/Wants:
enjoy the outdoors and would love to be in an area with parks or running trails
would also love a "walkable" area, but not averse to driving
near farmer's markets
would love some room for gardening (even if we do not rent a house, I would hope there are community gardens around)
would love to pay 1100 to 1500/month

Nos:
noise
crowds
looking out my window and into my neighbor's home (lol)
typical blahs...

Any help would be wonderful!

Muchas Gracias!! (not Latino, just studying Spanish...practice makes perfect!)

Depends on where you move in the City.

Oregon City isn't exactly a desirable area for most Portlanders because it's geographically isolated from most of the city. Your wants describe 90% of the Portland Metro Area though.

What hospital are you working at? If you're at Kasier Sunnyside then Oregon City would be a decent location. But if you're working OHSU on Pill Hill, it'd be closer to a nightmare.

There are community gardens at Clackamas Community College, in Oregon City. Not sure if there are others elsewhere.

Oregon City is a historic town. So the "walkable" area, in the center of the town, are going to be houses closer together than it sounds like you'd want. And it's a tad "gritty," being an old mill town. You can be on the outskirts of town, and not be so close to neighbors. Your budget should do you pretty good in Oregon City.

Across the river, in West Linn, is a nicer, less dense area, though it's going to cost more.

You're going to find farmer's markets anywhere.

The question of which hospital is a good one- I automatically thought Providence since that's in OC. Really, it depends on whether you're looking for big-city life or more quiet and suburban. OC is definitely the latter.

I live just north of OC.

enjoy the outdoors and would love to be in an area with parks or running trails
Lots of those around. There's the Trolley Trail from Gladstone (just north of OC) to Milwaukie, which connects to a nice trail in OC along the Clackamas River, for example.

would also love a "walkable" area, but not averse to driving
There are walkable areas, though mainly more strip-mall than chic businesses.

near farmer's markets
OC has 2 farmer's markets and is one of the few areas that has one year-round. The larger market is wonderful, the smaller one is not too bad. Milwaukie has one as well.

would love some room for gardening (even if we do not rent a house, I would hope there are community gardens around)
Houses in Clackamas County tend to be on larger lots than Multnomah. This should be doable. There's a big community garden near Meldrum Bar Park on the OC/Gladstone border; there may be more around.

would love to pay 1100 to 1500/month
You can rent a house on that budget, which should make the gardening easier.

This is what made me think you probably aren't looking for big-city life. If so, you might really like OC or nearby neighborhoods.

Thanks to all of you for your feedback! I'm becoming partial to the West Linn area, but will keep researching. I also like the Lake Oswego area, not too far away from OC. Thanks again!
