Sure, I meant most comparable in terms of style and menu - small stores that really just sell burgers/fries/soda/shake and not much else. If you just want a burger, 5 guys (which we do have in Portland) or InnOut is probably your best bet. If you don't eat burgers, they really have nothing to offer you.

Burgerville has a much broader menu, and burgers are a fairly small part of what they do despite the name: salads, 2 different veggie burgers, 2 different chicken sandwiches, breakfast (including oatmeal or burritos), smoothies/shakes, and the seasonal stuff.

That technically is true, though I do love Burgerville's burgers with Tillamook cheese, I miss those burgers.

Now that is just crazy talk...LOL In-n-Out is going to be one of the only things I'll miss about CA once we make the move!

Oops. Didn't meant to derail this to a "better burger" thread. I was just forewarning the OP. Like I said, the Californian's I've met here, who like In-n-Out find Burgerville to be right up (well down) there with Sonic.....bad burgers.

I saw they have a fish burger, I'll have to give it a try (and the turkey burger and fish and chips). Hey, I'm willing to give it a try at least once. I mean, I go to this burger joint by my house, is it good? Not really. Does it satisfy the craving and it's not McD's? Yes.

I think it's definitely a regional thing. Granted, not everyone who grew up in CA likes In-n-Out either. And I'm sure not every Oregonian loves Burgerville. That's why I told the OP to give it a go, at least once. If they hate In-n-Out, they may love Burgerville....or vice versa.

Sorry, no amount of convincing it ever going to make me think of In and Out as "food." I wouldn't feed it to my dog.

More Crazy talk See, I was excited to try Burgerville on my last trip there, thinking it would be a great replacement, and I was sadly disappointed! It was "OK". My hubby said it just tasted like a Carls Jr. burger to him. I didn't try the shakes or onion rings though. But it didn't come close to In-n-out for us! I really think perhaps ones preference can just depend on what they're used to!

The good thing is, the fish is halibut. Thinner than a big halibut steak, but halibut nonetheless.

It's not the burgers per se, it's the variety of local things and quality non typical fast food things they make. Their generic burger isn't special.

5 Guys is probably the closest to In-n-Out for flavor and taste and cost. They're not everywhere but they are pretty spread around the area. If you want a good burger though, go to Little Big Burger or Foster Burger. They are more sit down type restaurants but have incredible burgers.

I disagree on the IN-N-Out similar to Five Guys. WHAT? I am a huge fan of Five Guys and not a fan of In N Out. I find In N Out to be overpriced McDonalds. Five Guys, you can actually taste real meat in it ...and get any topping you want! Plus, we 're fans of the cajun fries.

Off the burger topic... I totally recommend checking out The Grotto. You don't even have to be religious to see how pretty it is. Especially in the summer. I'm Agnostic and love checking the place out a few times a year. It's also, not pricey and you can get through the whole thing in less than an hour. Of course, it's worth seeing Multnomah Falls too- it's not too far out of the way. Powell's is awesome if you love books. And down the street from it is, quite, a large used music store, with records, CDs, casettes, and a small selection of DVDs.
