If she was living in another state and hating it, I could understand the emotional outburst (to an extent). But she's where she wants to be, so it sounds "weird" to me, too.

I get it. My friends mom is a walking tourguide. And she can't shut up, period. But she tends to talk all about Portland, blah, blah, blah. The thing that makes it over the top is that she doesn't care what I say, she just keeps talking! Not sure which is worse, crying because you're emotional or literally (used in the correct way) non-stop talking.

I have told her I'm not big on history, but I got to hear all about the Lewis & Clark trail. Like I said, she doesn't care, just won't stop talking.

I feel your pain.

Really she should see a physician. She may have ADHD which is treatable.

Anyone who cries over Portland has some sort of mental/emotional issue.

Sounds more like bi-polar.

Though if there's other incidents that might indicate that rather than this just being a one-time expression of emotion, the OP should actually care for his friend rather than just sort of shaming her on the internet.

Sounds like her romance is with herself.
I hear this type of self important hyperbole quite often. The funny part: sounds like they are trying to convince themselves.

Although you can get excellent mental illness analysis on the Portland forum, for the final word on his friend's problem, the OP should ask on the CD Mental Health forum: //www.city-data.com/forum/mental-health/

Or maybe call Dr. Phil.
