My wife and I are looking at a house by Persimmon CC with an assessed value of $357k. The property taxes listed on Portlandmaps.com shows $6100!!!! This seems VERY high. I pay $3800 on a $348k assessment in Vancovuer, WA. Does Gresham tack a hefty surchage onto the Multnomah County taxes? Anyone know WHY the taxes are so high?

In general, this is because of the state property taxes in Oregon. They are a lot higher than Washington.

They just seem high in Gresham compared to Portland. I have seen houses with a higher market value in an area like Laurelhurst with $2000 less in taxes. The more I think about moving to OR, the more I don't want to do it with the taxes so high. However, we don't have much of a choice.

My parents live in Damascus (Clackamas County), it's just south of Gresham and is a great place to live. I grew up there and in Gresham. I could probably help you more if you are looking for a place based on location, or location and job, ect. I'm very familiar with the areas surrounding Portland so I'd be glad to give you some advice.
