I agree, call the police. This unwelcome guest is an abuser, possibly a scam artist.

Contact the Oregon Bar Association. Often you can get one hour's free advice from a lawyer.

It does not sound like your guest will compromise and leave, it sounds like they always planned to set up at your house by sending their mail there (because its cheap to get a PO BOX). Change your locks and file a police report. If your guest is not paying rent he is not considered a tenant but a squatter. Unless your squatter has documentation (such as an email, text, or legal binding contract) any agreement that they thought to presume is hearsay. If at anytime your squatter threatened you in any way (physically or threat of action to their removal), you can immediately file that with the police and they will have to immediately take action. Seriously makes you not want to help anyone anymore.

Stop worrying about the legality of the situation and just throw the bum out!

Police are always going to "go by the book" to avoid lawsuits and unfavorable publicity. The one thing they fear is unfavorable publicity.

Just get the locks changed when he's gone. Either set his stuff outside or send it to another location he can re-claim it, such as a storage facility. The main thing to do is put yourself back in the position of power. YOU inside, HIM outside. Then, let the games begin! Just WTH can he do....call the police? He's not going to do any such thing and we know it. He will just slink off somewhere else. Make sure to have copies of your deed, driver's license, etc to prove YOU own the place, and have a local TV station lined up and on speed dial. Police cannot literally force you to allow someone else into your home. Legal channels take time and money this dude probably doesn't have. I've learned to stop being so afraid of repercussions in this world and stand my ground.

Here in Texas we have a category for police response called Guest Won't Leave. This is MY house, not some bed-and-breakfast or homeless shelter!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

How many hours do we need to wait for Daria (the OP) to post before assuming she has met with foul play? Do we call the Portland police (her profile says she is in 97232) or the City Data police?

I agree.

And who told her his accepting mail at her house gave him tenant rights? The wannabe legal eagles need to stop muddying the waters.

The CD "Powers That Be" need to contact authorities NOW.

ummm if he doesn't have a lease then you dont need to worry about evicting him. Having his mail sent there doesn't mean a damn thing, you own the house/or are on the lease.. change the locks and kick him out. if you have to call the cops and they will escort him out. Get a restraining order if you need to keep him away. good luck.

No, and that concerns me. If the OP is Lurking we need to know you are OK.
