My girlfriend and I moved to Portland a couple months ago, but with all the madness of getting settled in to our new place and finding a new job for her, we havent really had a chance to do or see anything yet. So give me some good places to take her on her days off next week (weds/thurs, if that matters).

Thanks for any suggestions,

--john

Hard to answer without knowing your interests. A drive up to Timberline Lodge to ski or just play in the snow and look around the lodge. Day hike in Tryon Creek State Park. Powell's Books is a place some people can lose themselves in for a day. Movies at the Kennedy School are fun. The Blazers are fun to watch again (got rid of the last of the head cases a year ago), but I don't know if they are playing at the Rose Garden on those days. OMSI or the Zoo are fun if you have any "kid" in you.

Yeah, I guess I could have provided a bit more info. Tryon is the one place we have gone and it was great. We both love the outdoors, movies, she loves beer (I've heard of the movie pubs but we havent gotten a chance to go yet. Any particular one thats good?), we both definitely have a lot of kid in us, and we're planning on going to the zoo soon...

Almost all the movie pubs are part of the McMenamin's chain. Bagdad and Kennedy School are my favorites. I also like checking out the music acts that come into the old Alladin Theatre. Last show I went to there was Monte Montgomery. Fantastic!

I second the McMenamin's recommendation. Very cool places with excellent beers. (I absolutely LOVE the Kennedy School.) Powell's Books is another one of my favorites that has already been mentioned, too. I could easily die happy there.

Try to get your hands on an edition of the free weekly newspaper Willamette Week. There's a plethora of information in it of what's going on, where, why, when, and for how much. They also have a website here.
