We are trying to move to Portland. One thing I thought would be nice is to live on or close to a greenway (paved trail without auto traffic). I am also looking to live near a train line so I can get to/from PDX.
Are there these types of trails and what areas/greenways would you suggest or avoid?
Thanks

Almost anyplace in the area. Even downtown. If you have a job, pick the place you want and go for it.

I'm a bit mixed on my feelings here. The map is accurate but also potentially a bit misleading. But it depends on precisely what your looking for.

Of those routes I've done, the Marine Drive trail is imo the prettiest, but it's just for pleasure not a commuting route - plus it can be congested with walkers, and occasionally you get jet fighters landing nearby making quite the ruckus.

Some of those other runs either run alongside major roads (Sullivan's Gulch, I-84 corridor trail, even Marine Dr) or have crossings at major roads (Columbia Slough). At the least, on quite a few you're not going to be confused that you're off in the woods away from the city.

Springwater is probably the most like some of the grander greenways I tend to think of, where stretches are really set off in the woods, and yet it also has utility as a route to cross long distances. If you were dedicated you could commute from Gresham to Downtown largely by way of that trail.

Some of the routes on the westside are pretty nice too, but you want to be prepared to deal with elevation on several of them.

The map is also a bit out of date (looks like it's from 2008)- some of those routes (like the Trolley Trail) have been completed since then. I'd advise coming out and exploring any trails you're interested in.

Thanks for the replies. After re-reading my post, I realize I wasn't really clear at all. I am looking for a paved trail where my 2 year old can ride his bike or walk around with us and not have to worry about cars. I have a job! I will be needing to live in an area close to preferably the red line so I can get to/from work easily (pdx).
So I meant a greenway that is near a redline station.

Thanks

The Red Line will intersect several, particularly ones that run through downtown.

Still the same answer. Pick just about any spot. Best chose a place where you have a job nearby rather than add to the traffic.

There are trails like that all over Portland. And tons of parks with paved trails too.
