Hosford-Abernethy area. One of the most bike-friendly neighborhoods in the country and an easy ride to downtown

"Saving up" has never been a factor.

The best part is watching the local news and seeing what I am missing.

It does not hurt a bit.

It has been worth every penny I paid.
I worked my ass off for this, and let me tell you, it was well worth the effort.

And I could have not done better financially,

I am free from the Portland bull-shyte.

For me, it's been a "Win-Win" situation every step of the way.

Good luck to everyone that thinks moving to Portland will solve all their problems in life.

For many, Portland is a false God, and maybe even a "Quagmire of Misery".

Right on Mike. $705,000.

Lovely house. Nice green paint. Low, low price. When you use the toilet, neighbor next door looking at your backside from his window 3 feet away. Don't forget "walkable". $7,500\year in taxes.
Someone paid for it three quarters of a million dollars. Since a fool is born every day, he will pay even more today.

Kudos for you for using the Quagmire of Misery meme, we gotta put that in every chance we got.

It sounds like the move was a good one and a needed one for you, which I don't blame you. Rural life in Oregon is not only beautiful, but peaceful. City life and rural life is great in Oregon.

The point I was making is that this is one of the many reasons why I support the Urban Growth Boundary so that we don't have a suburban sprawling Portland metro consuming all the beautiful rural land around it.

As for people who think Portland will solve their problems, those are usually the same people that complain about how much they hate Portland and end up moving away a few years after their move. I have known a number of those people over the years of living in Portland. They were nothing more than friends that come and go throughout one's life.

Ladd's Addition has some beautiful homes, though if one really wants to live in that neighborhood they can find something for a good deal that is much lower than $705K.

House half-decent enough, but 2 bedrooms, 1 bathroom for $439K!

Here is a typical
west-side alternative for $289K

Smaller families don't need lots of bedrooms these days. The Beaverton place is decent, though the kitchen needs to be gutted. I would never live all the way out on 172nd, but I am sure someone would love it there.

Ugly kitchen and no personality. But size wise it's definitely larger.

It's not IN Portland, but I dream of owning a house off of McNary that has a view of mt Hood or St Helens, in LO. I don't want one of the dozens of mansions up here, but just a simple 1500-2000 sq ft house with a view, a yard, and modernized charm.

Thanks to the OP for an interesting exercise. I looked around online and found beautiful neighborhoods and beautiful homes, places that are walking distance to some of my favorite spots, stylish interiors....but I came to the conclusion that I love where I am and there are pluses and minuses to any home or neighborhood. I think I would choose this spot again if given the opportunity, and it's nice to know that.
