I am not sure how the car2go service actually works but it appears that you can return it anywhere in their service area, not necessarily to a designated parking place. That could work for a one-way trip in the morning in a pinch - looks like about $15.

For me, groceries are about twice as expensive as they were where I lived before. (various Texas cities)

That is a bit of a surprise since Oregon has some of the lowest vittles prices in the country, but I expect there may be places where economics keep the prices lower.

It may depend on where you shop. Wal-Mart and Waremart, or Rainbo Foods are the lowest. Safeway, Albertson's, and Roth's are often double that. I never understand why Wal-Mart bashers would rather pay double brand for brand just to prove a point, and then complain about the prices. Also some nitch stores like Whole Foods or Trader Joe's are even higher. Freddie's can be high also. But it isn't Oregon or Portland, it is the store's. I shop Farmer's Market's a lot.

It's not just where you shop but what you buy.

Without getting into issues of food quality, if you're stuck on brands produced in the midwest/south, you may pay more for them here than you would there because of the cost of shipping, etc.

I'm not from TX, but northeast brands like Cape Cod chips or Nantucket Nectars cost more here than closer to where they're produced/packaged. But a relatively comparable regional brand like Tim's will generally cost less, and will more frequently be on sale.

I admit to being a bit sticker-price shocked at local produce, whether it's in stores or farmer's markets. But perhaps it's the same problem in each state, I don't know.
