Was wondering if the Beaverton school district takes inter district transfers now? We are in the hillsboro school district. Any recommendations for private schools in the Beaverton area? Our school experience with a private school is not going very well at the moment so we are trying to come up with a back up plan. Very nerve wracking when we just moved and don't know the area very well and I don't want to be a school hopper. I have some schools of interest but when I called them. (All catholic schools) they are full. Would look into OES and Gabel but the tuition is just way too steep for a one income family. Need some help on this. Our home school didn't get really good reviews so I am very cautious. Would love a school that focuses on bringing up a socially responsible child...our daughter had some very serious bullying the last two years. I know it is everywhere. Academics of course are important as well.

I go back and forth as to whether public or private is better. I don't care either way. Just want the right fit. It maybe that we keep looking for the upcoming months to come as to the right fit for our daughter but there are so many options.

How about just investigating and then investing in your neighborhood school? The most important indicator of success is parental involvement. Test scores aren't the only measure.

Will be investigating our neighborhood school tomorrow. For us it is hard because we still don't know where we want to buy a home and I don't want to keep changing schools. They are so many options here but it seems even though there are so many options a lot of the good schools are closed due to waiting lists and such.

Does that guarantee admission if you buy in the neighborhood? What if the school is full to capacity? What district are you in Yankee mama?

Maybe I am confused or missing something. When you move into a neighborhood, your house falls into a neighborhood school feed. You go to the district or your neighborhood school to enroll your child. The district could say you have to go to a school near by that is not in your neighborhood if the school really cannot take your child. I am in PPS and I have not heard of that happening. Chapman and Beverly Cleary in PPS are literally full to capacity but the schools bordering them are pretty good. I suggest moving somewhere that is not bursting at the seams but is a good school. Beaverton has a very good district. You can PM me if you like.

I called all around Beaverton today and they said school are full to capacity and even if you buy a home where your neighborhood school is doesn't mean my child would get into a school. I think to myself then why even buy a home then if I want to go to a particular school. Where we came from in California didn't matter at all. A student who was a transfer or who didn't live in the neighborhood school boundaries always had to be on guard because they would be bumped out of the school/district if parents bought or rented in the boundaries of the neighborhood school. Not fair either way but I didn't know how Portland areas schools dealt with this. Will PM ye!

Please PM me. I have spoken to people in the main office at BSD and you seem to have different info than what I have received.

So Mossy... I just checked put the BSD home page. Your child would not be a transfer student since you would be a Beaverton resident. As such, you have the right to a "home school" based on your address. The district could possibly send your child to another school based on boundary changes or over crowding issues but the district doesn't want to send your kid all over town. Get a home in a neighborhood that has surrounding schools that you would be happy sending your kid to. Beaverton schools are pretty equitable in comparison to PPS, btw.
