I think they should look at John's Landing area. There are some nice older condos out there that would merit a look. In that price range inventory is catch-as-catch-can.

Yes, look into the are around Multnomah Village; and you should be able to find what you're looking for. It's a nice are with its own central business district. Not too far from downtown, too.

Burlingame around Tryon CR is nice, too. Nice area around Marshall Park. You Should find a home in your price range.

Happy Trails,

Here you go...

Multnomah Village - Portland Homes For Sale - Zillow

Lots of hiking around Multnomah, too. There is Maruam Nature Park, Woods Park, Marshall Park, Tryon Creek St Park and Gabriel Park. Gabriel is more of a walkers park, though (it has paved trails ad some gravel paths), while the others are all Irthday trails.

Hi all,

I just wanted to jump in here with a quick update after being here nearly one week. A couple of things jumped out at me immediately:

1. Unless we get very lucky and find something very close to the edge of the city (SW/NW), the rest of the SW feels too suburban/rural to me. Don't get me wrong. It's absolutely stunning. I loved Multnomah Village and pretty much any area tucked away in the hills. I guess I'm at a stage that I want to be able to walk out of my door and have stuff around still.
2. The east side of town was far nicer than I remember/expected. Some favorite areas are Kerns, Laurelhurst, Irvington, Beaumont/Wilshire, Hawthorne, Ladd's Addition and I even really liked the pockets around Alberta.
3. Everyone who said that "most of the whole area is pretty nice" were dead on. We were hard pressed to find areas we disliked. Some streets were more or less leafy, but other than that, most pockets felt really good.

My wife and I really enjoy the sound of the freight train (we're staying near to Ladd's Addition) though I could imagine being too close would be bothersome. We also were fond of Sellwood though it did seem a bit too far out.

All in all this trip has been fantastic. I think we'll shift focus to the SE/NE inner areas but continue to keep our eyes out for any deals that would pop up near downtown on the west side as well. The only trouble we're finding with most of the nicer SE/NE areas is the houses are too large for us. We see many modest homes around, just none on the market but I'm hopeful they pop up from time to time. We'll most likely be coming back after the new year for a heavy search.

Again, loved the SW hills. So very nice. But we were more captivated be the inner SE/NE areas. Thanks for all of the help and comments. We find Portland to be a very nice place.
