Would like to know some good Italian restaurants in the area. No to chains. Thanks!

I've had good meals at *|* Nonna Emilia | Authentic Italian Food and Caro Amico ~ An Italian Cafe

I've heard very good things about iorio restaurant. portland's best handmade traditional homestyle italian.

QUALIFIER: I don't think Portland is really known for it's Italian restaurants. Not like San Francisco, for example.

Bar/Caffe Mingo is good. A little pricey, but good.

Piazza Italia is great. If you want to go for dinner, make reservations.

Piazza Italia is great, and the family who runs it is from Rome and knows their Italian cooking. I'd recommend that place too--and it's a fun place to go and not too expensive--and they always recommend good bottles of wine.

A Cena in Sellwood and Accanto on Belmont are good also from my experiences there. For an old school Italian-American type place, Caro Amico on SW Barbur has been around since 1949--though I haven't been there in a while, but it's a fun classic type of place.

I miss the the Lido. Too bad the mob burned it down for insurance money because the business was in the tank.... I mean.. it sucks a totally that vagrants random fire gutted the thriving business that did not have a large insurance pay out.

Now, I like Amalfi. The little market has some real authentic imported stuff to make an Italian feel right at home.
