Hiya ladies & gents!

So, I am about to make my frontier to Portland after years of thinking about it.

I have a few questions:

1. What is the best rain gear as we head into the rainy season (jackets & boots) [i've heard goretex--but there are like a bazillion goretex jackets!--confused as to which ones are best for natives.]?

2. Best affordable (I know this is subjective) & college-minded areas with lots of happening events at coffee/tea shops areas?

3. Best areas to live near the MAX & Public transits?

4. Great outdoorsy parks/recreational areas?

5. Favorite yoga studios?

6. Anything you think I should prepare for before I move?

I have a living arrangement for two months and I have about 2400 saved up for my move. I know I have seen people say don't come here without a job... I may get transferred with the company I work for now, but I may not. I'm sure if I hustle I can get employed somewhere with a bachelors in English with a lot of solid customer service background. Ideally, I'd like to work at a college, coffee shop, or health food store.

Does anyone know of great places to work in Portland?

Thanks and I hope you all have an extraordinary day/night!

-Nicholas

Columbia Sportswear makes great breathable jackets for the rain, buy one with a hood. Think layers as often a shell is enough, add a fleece vest or jacket under it when it gets cold. Rain pants aren't really necessary unless you are riding a bike.

An alternate source is REI.

If you want something you could wear on the mountain as well as for warm rain interchange jackets. I prefer those with flaps over zippers, but they are more expensive.

One of the reasons to have a job first is that you can't really answer this without knowing where it is you're going to.

Beaverton has great transit access, but you wouldn't want to be commuting to the Gateway Transport Center from there if you could avoid it. Other than PSU, the colleges are scattered all over.

UP is a nice location, but access via public transport is moderately lacking - only a few routes are particularly viable. It's even more lacking if you're looking at Marylhurst. However, almost all transit leads to PSU. PSU is the "Roman roads" of Pdx public transport.
