Relocating to Portland for work in a few months.

How much are you paying each month for utilities?
Cable/Internet cost? We're not looking for anything fancy.

Thank you!

Utilities are going to vary widely on what kind of building you're in--age and amenities. I pay a ridiculously low utility cost because I currently live in a LEED certified building. Prior to that I was in a 1970s building and costs were very different. Also, renting or owning? Some landlords cover water/sewer as an example and that's relatively high cost in Portland so it's a great deal to get that covered.

High speed internet is about $60, adding cable depends on your package. High speed with basic cable thru comcast is about $65/70 and you can go up based on your package. There are a variety of high speed packages too.

My daughter pays about 100 a month for high speed internet and phone only.
That includes all fees and taxes, not just the basic cost.

The internet is about 60, the phone is about 40.

I keep telling her to lose the phone, but she has had the number for years and doesn't want to lose it, and doesn't trust VOIP, so something like OOMA or Vonage won't work for her.

In the two apt complexes I've lived in, water/trash is about $50.

Cable internet via Comcast can vary. Their one year intro rate is $35, but after that is about $65+. TV just depends on what you get. I think my intro rate for tv/internet was $80 for the first year with HBO and SHO, but went up to about $140 afterwards with no premium stations (HBO, SHO, etc).

As oldtintype said, electricity is going to vary. Where I live now, I'm at about $55/mo no heat usage, I rarely cook, and I do laundry once a week. They last place I lived had horrible insulation so in the winter I hit a high of about $200. Summer was around $60. I'm told that is still very high.

I'm happy to hear you found a more suitable apartment. What will you do with the extra $145?
