Two years? Not much. But man, when I moved here in 2004 it was like a different city. My college student friends and I rented a house at 16th and Belmont for $1075 a month in 2005. It was heavenly. I even walked to PSU sometimes! After that we moved to 102nd and Burnside to a new two bedroom apartment with a garage near the MAX and it was $1095.

Belmont back then was grisly and undiscovered. I LOVED it.

I loved that era of Portland, it was a great time to be a single man in Portland.

Look at this list below. I think you can add Seattle, San Jose, Dallas. Austin, Houston to it. The Chinese stock market is crashing hard so the rest of the world will be down as well. Perhaps 15-20% stock market correction then housing market to follow .
I wouldn't buy anything right now or next year and even 2017.

Next month the rents will go up by $200 thank you Urbanlife for telling me what a wonderful place Portland is--I couldnt agree more
You know i got a girl who renting my condo in downtown Bethany for 3 years now and i never bother to jack up the rents. A couple hundred dollars surely not make me feel any richer but sharing a hard time to those who needs help at the moment is much more important.
Once in a while i advised her is that there will be a time Portland will no longer a good place for her to live so save up and start thinking of a back up plan.

I agree. Sometimes you don't realize it until it's in the rearview mirror, but Portland did seem almost magical back in the early-2000's.

I don't think Portland is all that tied to the Chinese market. The housing issue here is less a bubble and more a lack of available housing due to most homeowners not looking to sell.
