My daughter will be in the fifth grade, so good schools are a must.

Another question... besides Craigslist,is there a good way to find a 30 day rental while we get the lay of the land and explore the towns?

30 day rental can be avail through corporate housing (and comes furnished so you don't have to move stuff twice). Check around the Lloyd Center on the eastside of Portland, Downtown Portland or even Lake Oswego. Most apts will require at least a 6mos commitment I think so Craiglist with private owners may be your best bet.

Worth considering AirBnB or similar rather than an actual rental contract. Though I haven't done any pricing comparisons, in terms of ease of setting something up, that's going to be a much easier route in my experience.

Or yes, corporate short-term housing. There's an "extended stay America" on Cornell in Tanasbourne (moderately convenient for getting to the office), though the per night price is high and I don't know what discounts they would provide if any for a month-long stay.
