It is possible that we will be moving to Portland this summer. I was wondering if anyone would recommend a good preschool for my 4 year old. It would need to offer full time care. Thanks!

Do you know the neighborhood you will be moving to?

If you're going to be near SE Portland, try the Child Center at Providence Portland Medical Center. I know their preschool is Montessori (Providence is a Catholic institution but open to all). The Child Center is widely known across the city as being one of the best daycare/early childhood education centers around. If you are not a Providence employee, you can get your child in, but PPMC employees get first right.

Try childswork. It's a great program with all day options.

In case you find yourself anywhere near Vancouver (just across the river from Portland), Knowledge Beginnings is excellent. My two children have really thrived there. The KinderCare in West Linn is good, too (there are two in West Linn...I only know about the one closest to Lake Oswego). KinderCares seem to be really different depending on the Directors, so be sure to get a tour and try to get information from parents about the specific ones you are considering. One warning: don't give anyone a big check to get on a waiting list. Preschools around here don't want to return the money even if your child is never able to enroll.

Default Neighborhood?

Do you know the area of PDX in which you'll be living?

My 4 year old went to Bethany Montessori in NW Portland. It is somewhat pricey but definitely worth it. There are a lot of kids from Asian-american families whose moms and dads work at Intel and Nike.

It is a full day childcare as well. It would cost you about 800-900 per month.
