It isn't hard, for starters the Puget Sound is a deep body of water and a safe harbor that creates a perfect place for lots of shipping. Also there are a number of good sized cities that are throughout the Puget Sound which helps with overall population growth. Then throw in the international connection that the area has had for a long time. It will always be the big city of the northwest, and there is nothing wrong with that. Portland doesn't need to strive to be the biggest city to be a great city.

You tell me, you seem to be the one who is upset with Portland for some reason....Portland's unemployment rate is 4.4% not something I would call high....

It's not something I would call totally representative of the truth either. 40 year olds working full time in a coffee shop on minimum wage isn't full employment.

last months figures were 5.2%
it was Seattle that had 4.8%
