Dub D, from your own description I'd tend to recommend Tigard as well.

If you like suburbs, Tigard makes no bones about being a suburb. Whereas Beaverton really wants to have it both ways - hip and yet suburban! And there's no point sitting in a car 60 minutes a day just because you're willing to. At the least I'd look south of 10/210.

Beaverton would be a better fit if:
-you wanted MAX transit into the city
-you want a suburb with a coherent, small-city 'downtown'

Sherwood would be a better fit if:
-you wanted a more 'rural' outlying suburb off the I-5 corridor

Everything you have said, to me makes it sound like Tigard is really the best fit anyway, and that you might as well live near work and save on commute time/cost.

It's really not. I've been all over the world and a lot of the US. My 2 hour flight tomorrow is scary short to me. I'm use to 10+ hour flights.

I wondered about looking in Tigard myself, but the GF pretty much nixed that. Neither of us much want to be outside of Portland, but I would have considered Tigard if the housing costs were cheaper and if I could find something that doesn't look too suburban. But as was already said, I guess Tigard makes no bones about being just fully suburban which I hate. I also noticed the housing prices were not any cheaper than most of the Portland places we liked. Maybe 10% cheaper, which is insignificant.

Here's the hat trick, this thread is such a snooze fest. I wish they would make a section for people that don't want to live in Portland to post in. Maybe Washington County could have its own section, its not Portland.
