Must be a money issue or the two goverments don't agree on things.

Think of the BART to get from Oakland to San Francisco, in a tunnel under water. This would be a great solution to get to and from Vancouver, with Park and Ride parking lots on both sides.

Because Vancouver and Clark County didn't want the MAX. The original plan was for the Yellow Line to go past the Expo Center to Vancouver, but Vancouver voters rejected it.

There's a bus. Also, you can take the Wahkiakum Ferry but that's not terribly convenient for daily Portland commutes.

The East Bay population alone is about 2.75 million (leaving out San Francisco and the rest of the Bay area population). The entire Portland metro area isn't that big.

Voters in Clark County have voted down light rail and Washington State has little interest in projects for Southwest Washington - sort of the way Oregon has little interest in rail projects for anywhere outside Portland (not that rail projects would make much sense outside the large metro area).

Clark Country tends to vote Republican and they don't want Portland's riff-raff spilling over the border. I dont blame them at all.

It's too bad these two cities can't get along.

Because Vancouver and Clark County voted against light rail, so now they sit in traffic that will continue to get worse for them as the Vancouver side continues to grow.

Keep in mind, Vancouver needs Portland more than Portland needs Vancouver.
