May I suggest Montana?

There's a few... more retired law enforcement head to Idaho and Nevada.

From those I know... Oregon is still destination one for Californians leaving the State... some just over the boarder and others to Portland and surrounds.

Funny thing growing up is we had several neighbors from Oregon and they liked California so well they never went home... a lot of military stationed in California that never left.

I don't know why. Nevada is 100 times better than Oregon. It has no income tax at all, it's 1/3 the price for amazing houses with pools, weather is VASTLY superior, people aren't socialist morons, bars never close - ever, you can get food 24 hours a day at nice places, world class shopping, 19 of the 20 biggest hotels in the world, more world class chefs than any city worldwide, free laws like enjoying alcohol on your sidewalk without being bothered, inexpensive alcohol on top of that (low taxes), and just all around far better quality of living. Only a moron would leave Nevada for a state as pathetic and boring as Oregon.

So why do you live in Oregon if Nevada is so much better? Especially seeing you don't seem to think highly of those that choose Oregon over Nevada....

Las Vegas is too hot with a volatile housing market. Plus it's a sin city (could be fun but to raise kids?). Plus if you are a Vegas local, you don't go to those hotels on the strip anymore. It's for tourists. You may go to South Point at best for HH but that's about it. Reno is kind of small and is too windy over from the Sierra. All the homes there must be built so that they don't face the west side where the wind is blowing from. It also has a lot of meth issues. I did see many people from California who retired in Reno. There are some beautiful homes along the Sierra Nevada mountain range but are still really expensive. Yes, they got Californian issues too but because they drop so much money in gambling in their state, the state economy depends on them.

I was born and raised in Las Vegas, and I think they have good schools. The Clark County School District seemed to have money. We always had decent facilities and teachers, and newer school buses with air conditioning in them.

Last week the house was leveled for new construction.
BTW, on one side is a dirty mucky dirt road that nobody drives down because it's an impassable mud pit most of the time, the road it fronts is paved.

Think about that. Someone paid 400 thousand dollars for a 10,000 sq ft lot.

Makes you wonder what they are going to build?

They will probably split the lot and build two new $700k houses like this one two blocks away:

5002 SE Tolman St, Portland, OR 97206 | Zillow

This one sits on a dirt road (49th) on one side, and a poorly paved road (SE Tolman) on the other, and while quiet, the neighborhood isn't that wonderful.
No sidewalks.

I don't think they will get their asking price, and I predict that it will sell for above $500k though, and end up being purchased by a young professional couple starting a family that wants to live in the Woodstock area.
The house on Tolman now has a sale pending sign.
Rumor has it that it sold well above 600k, but not for the asking price.

Crazy.
The pictures look good, but if you were to check out that particular part of the neighborhood in person............well I hope you like mud in the winter and dust in the summer.... a constant stream of tweakers on their bike/trailer setups etc....it's all there.....the Portland experience I guess......

Wow, someone was dumb enough to pay that much for that area? And this is why I don't feel that bad for people when markets crash or drop and the value of their house is worth 1/3 of what they paid for it.
