It seems like I'm not very plugged in and often find out about things when they've already happened. Looking for things like outdoor concerts, art exhibits, parades, cultural events (like the Southeast Asia festival they have in southeast), strange things like the touring typewriter exhibit that was at the Convention Center last year.

Do you guys look on Oregon Live? Facebook? Elsewhere?

I use this. It covers just about everything. I download blank calendars for the summer months and enter whatever looks interesting to me in this web site.

I use this primarily as well. Facebook, too. I downloaded Nearify, but I don't really use it that often. Every now and then, I'll also look at PDX Pipeline.

The city of Portland doesn't have a tourist bureau? There should be a visitors information Web page that lists upcoming events.

Not only does Portland have a tourist and information center (in pioneer square) they also at one point had information specialists stationed throughout the city. Plus two free papers and a number of websites. Honestly I'm not sure how anyone can miss all the resources available.

Ask any hip downtown barista or bartender for advice. Back in the day... in the early 90's living in NYC, one would go to a cool bar and chat with the bartender. Networking old school style.
