I am, and have been for 40 years. I've ridden extensively in downtown Portland and never had an issue going around someone. Just like driving on the road you make adjustments for other drivers when they use poor judgement. You could just as easily say "Hey, you can't stop there it's unsafe", rather than calling someone a name. Civility isn't that difficult.

Nor is civility always valuable or deserved. Sometimes, someone's being an [alimentary canal homestretch] and it's a service to society to call them that. Loudly and publicly. As we have seen, some people's world view is: "I may inconvenience you or put you at risk for my selfish reasons, and your objections are immaterial." There is a book by the title of the term that was used, easily found on Amazon, and very much explains the behavior of some people. I'm all in favor of calling them exactly what they are.

I'm not going to get upset at someone who gets a flat (car) on the I-5. That's called bad luck and I would have empathy. What I would have a problem with is some guy stopping right in the middle of traffic to try and get a good picture of something. That's being oblivious.

Sometimes when people feel they've had a close call the become frightened and the adrenaline takes over. The cyclist who swore at the OP may have felt he had just avoided an accident and just blurted out his words.

When something like that happens, people aren't going to stop and be polite.

I just have a feeling the OP may be minimizing what happened.

A cyclist just died here trying to pass another rider on a path. Slow rider freaked when being passed bringing down both. If I see someone off their bike I ask them if they have everything (to change flats) as it's not common to see someone off the bike unless something is wrong.
