Reading through the posts here I discovered an inexplicable phenomenon.
Some of the most stalwart defenders of the PDX climate say in one post: "I love the cloudy weather and the rain", yet in some other post: "the sun is out today - it's gorgeous out there".
Which one do you really love then?
Or are you Napoleon and Jesus in the same person?

Not I. The sun has made me forget the long winter we just had however its rainy as a write this. That little bit of sun was very encouraging.

Maybe they are just positive human beings (I know, they are unicorns on the internet, but you never know). Personally, I accepted the rain and clouds decades ago. It's just the climate. It is what it is. I don't let it get me down. That said, I'm always happy when the sun comes out. I guess I'm just happy most of the time.

I much prefer the cool cloudy wet days like we are having today.
Long dark, cold, wet, winter rainy seasons suck, any way you look at them.

But, there is no arguing that when the sun comes out, IT IS absolutely beautiful around here.

I don't see why a person can't have a preferred climate, but enjoy the others too?

I did really like Hawaii weather, theres something about the warmth, the rain showers and sun mix, and proximity to a warm beach (after years and years of cold coast access) that feels really peaceful to me.
But, not sure I that living in Hawaii appeals to me.

And, honestly, listening to the sound of rain outside today is pretty soothing to me now(after these days of sun, which I also really enjoyed)!
-getting ready for a nap!

Its kind of like enjoying a sweet and sour dish, I guess, the juxtaposition enhances both 'flavors'....

I wonder why you think that each person is only allowed to enjoy one type of weather.

Exactly! I love it all except when we get too much snow or ice. Other than that I love all the climates we have here.

Portlandians get a little prickly about the weather. They know it's nasty but they can't afford to leave. California is out. Too expensive. So they try to justify their locale by saying "it's worse someplace else". There is a reason why the Pacific NW leads the nation in suicides. It's super depressing.

I get tired of relentless sunshine faster than I get tired of the rain. That doesn't mean I don't enjoy a sunny day.

As for the suicide rate, several sunny places have higher rates than Oregon. It's much more complicated than weather.
