Eh, you're right, we shouldn't be too hard on him/her. After all, between LA's perpetual smog, constant brain-radiating sunshine, and the tap water drawn from the fish-killing Salton Sea, his/her perception of the world has been irreparably warped. Pretty sad, really.

Los Angeles is where rivers run in concrete. Not so in Oregon. You'd think that a troll living under a bridge would have figured that out. I remain impressed that he gets wifi under that bridge!

I think I was 11 when we went on a family vacation to Oregon (from LA)... for several months afterward, I kept saying "let's move to Oregon!" It wasn't practical of course... my dad's business being located in LA.
Well, 50 years have gone by somehow, but I think I'll at last become an Oregonian soon...

Great story! Let us know how we can help you find your perfect Oregon location! I am originally from SF Bay Area and Portland area reminds me of the less crowded CA days of my childhood. It's changing and getting more crowded but nothing like most CA metros.

You're just mad we don't want your intolerant bigoted person here. You couldn't handle the heat in Portland and now you hate us for being better than you.

Yes people in LA really hate Portlanders for their superiority. Like how much they save the planet keeping the freeways 2 lanes wide.

Exactly. You poison your air and your water! You just can't handle a sophisticated and intelligent culture and had to retreat back home.

Thanks, Yankeemama.... I did get halfway from LA to Oregon - been living in SF for many years. I've made several quick exploratory visits, and am pretty sure that Corvallis is where I'd like to make my new home. But I'm ready to hear the case for Eugene or Salem, perhaps even for a smaller city (I put up a CD post today asking for thoughts about Independence/Monmouth). My plan is to rent an apartment while househunting. Then my sister would move up too and we'd share the house (she's widowed, I'm single, so we decided we'll live under one roof). My #1 priority is access to nature, which of course looks to be easy from anywhere in the Willamette Valley. Sister likes to sing in a classical chorale, so we'll probably need one of the larger Valley cities for that.

Ideas & suggestions appreciated!

The weather where I grew up in SoCal (Ventura Co) is generally pretty dang nice in the winter and summer isn't too shabby either. I'm always jealous of it when my friend says it's high 60's and sunny there, and it's 40's and raining here. That said, the weather is really the only good thing about California anymore. I've lived a lot of places and it would still be last on the list. I'd move back to my home state of IL before I lived in Cali again.
