I am moving from India to Portland with my husband and 5 year old son.
I need information on where will I find Indian community in Portland. I want to get my son enroll in a good public school with good Indian population . we also want to get our apartment in that area.

Any suggestion would be a great help.

Thank you.

Start here: Portland Indian Community, Portland Desi Community. Roommates, Travel Agents, Nannies, Events and more...

Just off the top of my head I'm guessing that the greatest concentration of Indian families is probably going to be found in Beaverton, the suburb just west of Portland where a lot of tech companies are located. That is where you are most likely to find schools with other Indian kids in the class and so forth. Although which specific neighborhoods in Beaverton I couldn't tell you.

My grandchildren attended Class Academy, a private school in NW Portland on Vaughn Street, for several years as 4 & 5 year olds. It has a significant enrollment of children of Indian ethnicity. My grandchildren were invited to a birthday party for one of the students at LaSalle apartments at 15021 SW Millikan Way, Beaverton. It was my observation that a number of families of Indian ethnicity live there.

Orenco Station in Hillsboro would be a good place to look.

Bethany and Tanasbourne area as well. My sister in law works for Intel at Jones Farm and many of her coworkers live in that area.

Just a suggestion. Traffic and commuting in Portland can be awful. Find out where your job is going to be and live on the same side of the rivers as your job, regardless of where Indian children go to school.

I agree but many wives want to live near others where they share a culture, faith and food preferences. This is true not only for Indian families but also Americans when they find themselves in a foreign country.

My family decided to move to WA County from inner NE Portland in part because we didn’t find quirky, liberal, hippie Portland to be as open minded as the brochures try to promote. There are communities where an Indian family will feel more comfortable and safe. We found our community as a mixed race family out here in Beaverton.
