Be prepared to take a pay cut. IT wages suck in this town.

LOL!! I'm here in South Florida (Palm Springs) for the past four years, and have decided to relocate to Portland for many of the same reasons (no mosquitoes, but the unbelievably bad drivers more than make-up for it -- yesterday afternoon I was rear-ended at a red light, the third time in 27 months. Enough!)

I'm also in IT -- a Unix/Linux systems administrator since 1988 -- so I read the posts about using a local/regional address on one's resume. VERY good info! Yet another instance of what makes these online forums an exceptional tool!

So the planets all line up and you get the call from that IT job: "Brrrrinng, brrriinnng... ... hello?? Hello, Mr. Key Biscayne please. This is he. Very good, hold one minute for Mr. Otellini. [pause]. Hello Mr. Biscayne, let me get right to it. We're very impressed with your resume and would like to sit down with you and talk about 'fit'. How does this Thursday at 3:00pm sound? Ur, well, fine... Great, see you then. [click]

... ... with a maximum of three stops... um... eight hundred thirty five dollars if you booked two weeks ago and a $75 charge for your first piece of checked luggage... ... Mr. Biscayne? Sir? Hello? Is anyone there??...
