I was just browsing threads and felt compelled to clear a few things up. Portland has received a huge PR boost in the last year so for those considering moving here I just have to clue you in on a few things. The job market and rental market are incredibly tight. There are a ton of overqualified young people here scratching and fighting for the same jobs. And because of that fabulous PR push, there are tons of condos popping up all over the city mucking up the original charm of the place. And the traditionally black neighborhoods are being crunched into a smaller and smaller section of the city. It's a great place, but shouldn't we be creating great places all over the country and not trying to crowd one tiny city?

Those aren't truths, they're pretty much just opinions.

You're going to lose this battle, sorry to say. Talk to people in Phoenix (where i'm from) or Seattle, or Denver, or Boise, or even Salt Lake. It's the same all over the west. Oregonians are either going to have to get used to it like the rest of us, or move to Syracuse.
