My daughter has a medical condition which is making a lot of medical bills for her to pay. She has insurance from her place of employment but it is only paying 1/2 of what she owes.
She is working full time, paying for student loans, car, rent and everything else we all must pay for to live life on a daily basis.
It is bad enough that she has to deal with the stress of the medical problem and now the stress of debt...

Is there any place in Portland that can help her?

Any ideas or suggetions are welcome.

Thank you.

I would talk to the patient advocate where she is getting care. They often intercede on the patients behalf to structure payments and reduce the amount owed by the patient to the hospital. I work with these people a fair amount, and they do things that drive me nuts...but it helps the patient.

Be prepared to say "I'm sorry, I can't pay for this and food and a place to live...please don't make me choose". They want to get money, and it's not going to help if they get bad publicity for aggressively perusing a patient while getting nothing from them.

What's the general nature of her condition?

I once got the Kidney Association to take $500,000 worth of a persons bills for a renal failure.
